A MUSICAL JOURNEY
A talented multi-instrumentalist (tenor sax, flute, bass clarinet, piano, bass) and composer, Rob Frayne is a stalwart of Canada’s jazz scene, having played folk and jazz festivals and concert tours across Canada and some of the world’s most notable venues, such as the Blue Note in New York and Massey Hall in Toronto. He was the leader of the award-winning Chelsea Bridge quartet, the Refrayne Quintet and Tentet, and the Angstones, Ottawa’s hip folksters. Over the four plus decades of his career, Rob has been a part of many high-caliber bands and projects, including concerts and recordings with: the Shuffle Demons, Mary-Margaret O’Hara, Mary-Ann Price (Dan Hicks, Kinks), the Cuban Fence Climbers, Gil Evans Orchestra, Time Warp, Claude Ranger, Fred Stone, Kenny Wheeler, Hemispheres and many others.
Besides Canadian folk, jazz festivals and concert tours (over 20), Rob has played at the Bluenote NYC, and jazz festivals in Washington, the UK and the Molde (Norway) jazz festival. He appears on over 20 albums. Rob has also inspired generations of musicians, having taught privately for several decades, as well as for 12 years as a sessional instructor at Carleton University.
He brings a wealth of experience in all aspects of the music industry, from booking venues, setting up lighting, equipment and sound, to organizing recording sessions and producing and editing sound.
